The Struggle / Reminder

THE STRUGGLE

The silent crime I’m so guilty of

I get nervous when you’re close enough

A glance or phrase or possible touch

And I’m undone, bolt thunderstruck

Reluctant through it I have remained

Biding time or call it refraining

I hope one day you’ll maybe believe in

The beating heart here on my sleeve

The unrequited I’m so guilty of

Moon eclipsing my side of our sun

I struggle impossibly but can’t overcome

A mountain of fear stronger than love.

REMINDER

On a frosted green one autumn’s night

I lifted my eyes far away to a star

Whose nature, wonder and distance

Sadly reminds me of you

Of an ages old fire.

The evening soon adds a crisp kiss to my lips

Until I’m canopied black with memories singing

Of the burning destruction we both briefly lived

I’m sadly reminded of you

And of decaying designs.

The smallest hours take me by the fingertips

Leading me back from where my thoughts may’ve lain

Stepping back towards love where all hope survives

I’m warmly reminded of you

And how a memory is fragile.
